Top 10 Common Dreams and Their Meanings

By | June 24, 2013

Here are ten of the most common dreams/nightmares we have and their meanings:

10. Failure

Being a failure is one of the most common dreams people have. Whether it is a test or not being able to perform at work, it’s a nightmare that haunts almost every person once in their life. This usually means that you are insecure about something and aren’t sure about the path you want to take

9. Falling

Falling is also one of the most well-known dreams people have. It almost always ends with the dream being startled or jolted out of bed. The dream typically signifies feelings of being lost or losing control of various aspects of life.

8. Faulty Cars

I am a victim of these dreams. I am a biggie on being late and am always angered when there is traffic and I can’t get to a place on time. Many people like me share these dreams in which a car or some type of vehicle has insurmountable problems that cause too much delay for them. The dream usually signifies feeling of powerlessness over something in life.

7. Dying

In this dream, you dream of you or someone you know, almost always someone who is ill, dying. The dream usually means you are emotionally hurt or are afraid of being hurt. It may also act as a warning to you or your loved one that you or they may be at physical risk. Sometimes, it’s just as simple as meaning that you wish them to go away.

6. Being Pregnant

Both men and women have dreams of being pregnant or suddenly gaining a pregnant belly only to realize, when they wake up, it was all a dream….more so women because they carry them. Babies often symbolize a desire to produce offspring, or your own vulnerability or need to feel loved. They can also signify a new start.

5. Flying

We often dream of soaring like airplanes and birds and being able to get from place to place within minutes. If you are flying in your dream, then that means that you have liberated yourself of something that has been causing you heart ache. It also tells you how much control you have over your lives, depending upon how good or bad the flying is handled.

4. Back to School

It’s a very common to find yourself dreaming of being in a school again, often confronted with a test or exam that you aren’t prepared to take. This is a great example of a “dream pun” — the mind using a word or concept and giving it a different conception. The “lesson” or “test” we face inside the school or classroom is frequently one we need to learn from our past — which is one reason these dreams are often reported by people who have already finished school long time ago.

3. Feeling Lost

Unlike most of the dreams on this top ten list, this dream is very simple to understand. Feeling trapped or lost in a dream indicates a concern of being lost or trapped in a life situation. Are others pressuring you into doing something you don’t want to do? Do you feel as though you’ve been lost in the shuffle of things, or you’ve run out of options? If you dream it, you’re feeling it.

2. Being Chased

Being chased, whether by a robber, criminal or police, in a dream is typically your subconscious telling you that you’re avoiding a painful or frightening emotion, person or issue. Time to face them or it head on.

1. Pooping A Lot

When one dreams of pooping too much, this symbolizes a situation which has struggled with too much stress. When one dreams of actually touching poop this means that there is a fear of getting lost in an experience which is challenging to the extreme or sticky, if you know what I mean. When one comes in contact with an excrement, this shows that you have a guilty conscious or feel that you are in fact a gross person.
