Here are 7 good reasons why you should never play pranks on people. It goes to show that not every prank goes off without a hitch. If you do choose to play a prank on someone, you risk the chance of it backfiring on you:
1. Fake Skeleton
Three friends got embroiled in a prank war in nursing school. They decided to put a fake skeleton from their class lab into one girl’s bed while she was running errands. They hung out in the bathroom to see how the prank would unfold. She came in, but they did not get the results they were hoping for – a scream. After a few minutes they went into her room and turned on the light. She was lying in bed stroking the skeleton’s head with a bizarre look on her face. Turns out she had a nervous breakdown and had to drop out of school for a while.
2. Paul Chambers
In January, 2010, heavy snow fall threatened to cancel many flights, including those leaving Doncaster Airport, which left Paul Chambers not very happy about it. He took his grievances to Twitter, where he wrote “Crap! Robin Hood airport is closed. You’ve got a week and a bit to get your shit together otherwise I’m blow the airport sky high!” Uh Oh! A week later, police showed up at his workplace with a printout of his message. Chambers was arrested under the Terrorism Act, interrogated and banned from entering the airport. Fortunately for him, he was cleared 2.5 years later when a judge ruled that the tweet was a joke and didn’t suffice the attention it got.
3. Tyler Morton
On the last day of high school in June, 2011, 18 year old Tyell Morton, who happened to be an African American, zipped up his hoodie, put on some latex gloves and snuck into the girls’ bathroom with a mysterious package. Thinking that Morton was trying to bomb the school, the school was evacuated and the bomb squad was called to dispose of the box. It turned out to be a major overreaction – a box containing some dolls.
4. Vitaly Zdorovetskiy (aka. VitalyzdTV)
The guy pranks his mother on April Fools by asking her for money to treat his drug addiction. She freaks out on him when she realized it was a hoax and that he played an April Fools Joke on her.
Students at Brunel University university were scared out of their minds after they spotted a man known as ‘Kenny’, a 19-year-old Media Studies student at the university, appearing to wield a chainsaw at members of the public while dressed in a gold clown costume and curly red wig. But Kenny says he was not doing anything sinister. Rather, he was filming a “pre-planned” video with actors for his YouTube channel KingKennyTv.
Gmail Mic Drop caused more tears than laughter, thanks to users accidentally enabling the prank on serious emails – with some dire consequences. Gmail Mic Drop was a unique version of the send button which adds a gif of a minion (one of the sexless, ageless merchandising icons from the Despicable Me series) dressed as the queen dropping a microphone to the end of your email. Those using Gmail for business were the biggest critics of the prank.
7. Birthday Prank
A man decided to play an innocent prank on his wife on her birthday. The plan was to have some radio radio personalities contact the wife and tell her that her husband had lost his job because he was caught having sex with the secretary in his office. The practical joke began to come to fruition when the wife exploded into anger. The joke lost control when the woman revealed her own infidelity with her husband’s brother. Oops!
