Blogging is a big responsibility to take on. Basically, everything we post on the World Wide Web is a big responsibility. Being able to maintain a blog is something that needs effort and thoughts to make it stimulating and so that you would be able to attract more audience as well. 1. Define Your Goals

First and foremost, identify what the blog is for. It will turn out to be more successful if you know what to write about. Are you looking to entertain people? Promote something? Or do you want to simply share stuff about yourself and your day to day experiences? The future of your blog will depend on this reason. Think ahead of your goal, stick to that and start designing your blog!

 

2. Know Your Audience

Knowing your expected audience is also a must for bloggers because this is where the design and the content of your blog will depend. Let’s say that your target readers are teenagers, so your design must be something that is trendy and cool. It should catch the attention of young adults out there who are always concerned about what is in or not. In line with this, the content should also be about what interests the general teens. Fashion updates or fresh music releases, perhaps? It’s all up to you!

 

3. Choose the Right Platform

There are a lot of blog-hosting websites to choose from. From Blogger to WordPress, all you have to do is click around the internet. Of course, you have to think through what you feel is the right one for you. Weigh the pros and cons of each web site and start from there. You can also ask from other bloggers so that you can have a point of view which would eventually help you decide what to use.

 

4. Be Consistent and Persistent

If you have identified what your blog is about, be consistent to what you’re writing about, as well as your posting habits. Make it a vow to post at least once a week. Don’t let your blog be stagnant. No one wants that. Make sure that you always have something new and fresh for the readers, to keep them coming and interested.  Your design should also go along with what your blog is about. Don’t let your readers down by careless mistakes and nonsense stuff. A consistent blog is rewarded with reader loyalty. You’ll be reading fan mails in no time!

 

5. Write Your Ideas Down First

This is one of the best things to do while maintaining a blog. If you’re hanging out somewhere and taking a break from all the writing when suddenly, a thought pops into your head out of nowhere – write it down in your notebook and blog about it later! This is a good way to refresh your mind. This way, you’ll never run out of ideas to blog about.

 

6. Allow Commenting

You know you can’t please everyone. Open yourself to comments from other people about your posts or even your blog in general. These comments may be positive or negative. Don’t take them personally; treat them like a challenge instead to make your page better. There is always room for improvement. Good or bad, this just means more visitors for your blog. Each time there is a comment, strike a conversation with a person. Ask him or her what she liked or didn’t like, you may even ask pointers on how to improve next time.

 

7. Link Blog to Social Media

Social media such as Facebook, Twitter and Google+ are the most visited sites today. Why not use them to promote your blog and share your thoughts with other people? This is a good way for more readers to reach to your page and also to share your blog on their own walls and dashboards. You can put share buttons right on your blog so it’s just one click and your blog is out there. This means more audience; so you have to be careful of what words you use.

 

8. Join Blogger Groups

The best way to learn how to blog is to get to know other bloggers as well. You can join blogger groups to know more people of the same interests as you. You can join or start a conversation among yourselves and exchange ideas about blogging. Not only is this good for problem solving, because bloggers encounter the same problems most of the time, but it is also a well-known fact that bloggers like to read other blogs. You can ask their opinion and improve yourself in a lot of aspects.

 

9. Ignore Internet Rankings

Every blogger dreams of being on top of the game, but that’s not the only purpose there is. As a starting blogger, be smart and choose to ignore internet rankings such as the top blog of the week or the blog with the most visitors. Leave that to the super competitive ones. You just mind your own business and keep writing for your readers. Do what you have to do. Keep doing it and you’ll get better and better. Be your own rank master, and you can’t let other people tell you where you stand. Who knows? Maybe you will be on top in the future and you won’t even notice.

 

10. Be Honest

As a blogger, always go to the right direction, which is honesty. Be real with what you post on the internet. With great power of words and freedom of expression, comes great responsibility of being mindful of what you write or say. Readers appreciate a genuine blog that they can relate to.
